MVLA Community Scholars has helped over 100 students attend college and pursue the degree of their choice.

  • Founded in 2000
  • To date, 101 students awarded scholarships and mentoring
  • Average household income of recipient families: $43,800
  • Average high school GPA 3.4
  • Mountain View High 36 Scholars
  • Los Altos High 55 Scholars
  • Alta Vista High 10 Scholars
  • 31 male Scholars, 70 female Scholars
  • 56 current mentors
  • 75% have started start at four-year colleges

Desired Program Outcomes

  1. Enhance the economic mobility and career/life choices of underserved youth in our community.
  2. Students graduate with a strong sense of self-esteem, confidence in their life skills, and a life-long love of learning.
  3. Students graduate with a long-term positive relationship with one or more adults from their home community.
  4. Students exposed to different career opportunities through our Scholars Career Network.
  5. Create a self-sustaining program supported by a broad base of donors and volunteers, and strong, clear, and efficient program systems.
  6. Create a self-sustaining program supported by a diverse base of fundraising activities, including direct fundraising and earned income activities.
  7. The community feels a sense of ownership of the program, a stake in the success of its youth through the opportunities created for volunteerism.
  8. Mentors feel a sense of pride, accomplishment and personal growth.
  9. Committee volunteers feel a sense of personal/professional growth and accomplishment, and feel rewarded and energized.
  10. Donors feel rewarded by their choice of philanthropic investments.
    Every program participant feels a greater sense of community.
