"I want to cut that chain that has tied my family for a very long time in poverty and do something different in life. What motivated me to continue working hard is the fact that I will be able to give what I never had, and enjoy life instead of fighting for it. I am a dreamer and I am going to succeed because I want to see my dream come true."

Scholar Activities

Freshman Retreat (mid-June)

This required half-day retreat at the Krause Center for Innovation covers some basic information about being a Scholar (and how to request your scholarship funds!), and workshops on managing a budget and managing your time. These sessions emphasize increasing opportunities by developing an awareness of and a system for taking control of your financial situation and your daily schedule. Breakfast and lunch are provided.

Healthy Cooking on a College Budget

In this optional – and VERY fun class – we prepare a multi-course meal together, weaving in tips on eating healthy, what to keep in your pantry, and knife skills. You will leave the class with a notebook of recipes from the evening, a cookbook, and sense that cooking is a joyful activity!
